Parametric Landmark
Projection Mapping on parametric architecture, 2016
10 Days, 30 Workshops, 300 Participants. The International Festival of Art & Construction (IFAC) is built around alternative construction methods. In separate workshops, participants develop concepts for sustainable construction projects and implement them within the framework of the disciplines of design, art, architecture and engineering. The 2015 edition of IFAC took place at the eco-village in the Dutch town of Bergen, a location full of contrasts through its military past and its transformation into a sustainable location.
The general idea of the workshop was to design, build and illuminate an accessible wooden sculpture that visually and structurally meshes with its surroundings. In collaboration with architects Hendrik Wenzel, Gabriel Wüstner and a team of workshop participants from all over Europe, we designed a parametric sculpture, inspired and shaped by on-site parameters, i.e. the immediate surroundings of the installation.
After construction was completed, the sculpture was extended through another layer using a digital projection: During construction, we developed a projection concept based on the emotional parameters collected. For this purpose, participants drew, wrote, filmed, illustrated and animated, which in turn resulted in a digital projection concept based on location and the emotions of the participants. At the end of the festival, we illuminated the sculpture with these projections and thus provided an emotional conclusion to a creative and educational project.
