Refugee Taekwondo Class, 2019
Taekwondo is a Korean martial art I learned from my father when I was a child. The name is derived from the Korean words Tae – kicking techniques, Kwon – fist techniques and Do – the way or the state of mind.
While volunteering at a refugee center besides my day-to-day design work, many of the residents told me that they were desperate for physical and psychological compensation in their often bleak daily routines. As a reaction to all the demoralizing headlines on immigration policy, I decided to take action and teach a weekly Taekwondo class there.
