2020 was a catastrophic year for the live event industry. The pandemic forced promoters to cancel all kinds of shows, concerts and festivals as a preventive measure.
Deutsche Telekom and ICS, creators of the Wacken Open Air, understood this as a call to action and partnered with Live Nation Brand Partnership & Media GmbH and Veedel - Mediale Inszenierungen to organize the biggest Mixed-Reality Metal Festival ever.
Wacken World Wide used XR Technology to extend the physical stage digitally and project the artists into a virtual environment, thus creating an immersive experience for fans at home to escape their daily life for just a few days.
With 11 million live-content views on Magenta Musik 360 and Magenta TV, the first ever Mixed-Reality Metal Festival Wacken World Wide set the bar for future digital festivals.
