West Bund Shanghai
Corporate Design Concept for the West Bund Shanghai Design Contest, 2017
Shanghai West Bund is a cultural district along the Huangpu River, focusing on art, design, fashion, information and entertainment. The plan is to make West Bund the new landmark for Shanghai; an international metropolis, connecting local and global cultures. Global cities are located along rivers, like London, Paris and New York. The vision of Shanghai West Bund is to become just that – a central activity zone along the Huangpu River.
West Bund is one of the first modern industrial areas of China. The cranes and rails, the bridges and silos, the containers and concrete warehouses helped Shanghai gain its status as a global city. The design concept is inspired by the shapes and colors of this area. The bold forms of the industrial heritage are combined with the harmonious gradients of nature along the Huangpu River. The visual language is simple and iconic so everybody from London to New York can understand and appreciate it.
West Bund is home to museums and events, companies and startups, concerts and parks. To represent the many facets of this area, the right box of the logomark is modular. Adapting to the various sub-brands and projects of West Bund, it becomes a logo within a logo, a signage, an interactive platform or a customized canvas for the visitors.
